Jamuary 2025

Day 2

Just been listening through a lot of the jams with a cup of coffee. It’s really gratifying and inspiring to hear what everyone comes up with. Many of the jams being posted would stand up perfectly well as releases.

This day’s portion, just a little admin before I do some catch up on the rest of the thread.

Today it’s all Analog Keys and some SP404 MK2, and I think it turned out well.

Entry from Jan 1st:

Hovers (lurches) between half-speed and full-speed d&b riddim. I improvised the “arrangement” with mutes and all the effects with knobs and the crossfader. I think it’s out of time, and it’s very messy, but I like the slower groove and some of the crunchy bits. Syntakt & Octatrack (“mixed” and compressed in a Big Six because I have more gear than talent).

Another Nordlead 2 + Erica Synths LXR-02 jam. On an electro-tip.

Great that you all are up and productive.

I’ll try to make some contribution later in January but I’m a bit occupied with domestic duties and some upcoming shows(not sexy electronic music) in the first 2 weeks.

Just spent an hour going through and listening to everything, nice work all and keep it up.

No worries… still checking it out on SoundCloud, but in the link, there’s a rundown of how embed it on the forum:

i went to a riddim show the other night and this tune is more interesting to listen to than basically every track i heard at the show so you are doing it well. really like that creaky stretchy sound that leads into some snares

Thanks for the lovely feedback!

It was very fun to do. I've ignored my OT for over a year so this was to warm back up to it. I don't think I did anything advanced. Probably three hours, including swapping some gear around on my stand.

I made a loop on the Syntakt - a fairly simple pad on the Chord machine, and some basic 808-ish/LXR-ish spiky digital hats and snare, digital kick & bass. I took the bass and kicks out; fed the rest to the Octatrack, applying SRR and BRR, a little too much reverb, HPF, and then set SRR and BRR rates to scene B on the crossfader. Then I performed some motions as the loop played, recording to another track. The “crunch” is likely sliding over peak BRR - up full, the sound breaks up almost entirely. Then I sliced it evenly and did the linear trig-per-slice thing. I added playback rate to the same scene so I could play reverses. Then I took the Thru track + FX out of the OT’s mix, and took the percussion and pads that were in the loop out of the Syntakt’s mix, and jammed out the performance: un/muting tracks, playing the Syntakt delay and the OT’s “reverse” on the fly. The parts where the main loop disappears are just me holding the playback rate somewhere in the middle so it’s playing vvvveeeerrrrryyyyy slowly.

Loving everyone’s stuff so far!

Day 2:

This is a 1 of two different takes. I will post the other one later.

Creating a full modular song with the Noise Engineering Gamut Repetitor.

Using each output of the Gamut Repetitor for a different part in the song while modulating the spread and the down/up. The Gamut Repetitor is being triggered by different outputs of the Intellijel Steppy. Each output uses a different oscillator.

The main melody or lead is the Winterbloom Castor & Pollux. The bass sounds come from the Mannequins Mangrove and PPM and the final sound is the Olivia Modular Gravedad with the mass being modulated to create a dramatic slew effect. Some 707 drums are added to complete the song.
