My first Jamuary. Not sure if I’ll keep up with one piece per day. But I’ll try and see how it goes.
When I told my partner I was doing this she compiled a list of words for inspiration. Today’s word is “tea”. I started by recording water boiling, thinking I would make musique concrete or something. But ended up using it as a noisy backdrop for a nice melody. Everything else is made with factory sounds (a bit tweaked) of the Digitone and Digitakt.
Can’t seem to embed music from Faircamp, so here’s a link: Tea
Did one yesterday too but didn’t post it here: Jamuary 2025 #1
This is my first time doing the Jamuary challenge. Yesterday I was all pumped and I showed up, but forgot to press .record" on my camera, haha! Today, I jammed aaaaand pressed “record”. Short version: Gallanitte’s Jamuary
For day 2 I tried to mix my favorite salsa bass line (Fruko - El Preso) with DNB + Santana lead guitar. I got blisters in my fingers from recording the bass lines…
I wanted to try Ableton’s ability to ‘convert drums to midi’ so found a small section of a song in 3/4 that I liked. Cleaned up the output drums a bit, but it was too busy, so I used the built-in Random plugin which created a ton of space since a lot of notes didn’t have a drum assigned and ended up playing silence. I thought it would be interesting to do this with two drum sets to get kind of a call/response thing. It was a fun experiment that doesn’t always sound good, but something I think I might want to mess around with again. I added a couple repeating chords (Cmin - Amin) and a simple bass line to give it an anchor.
Not really focussed on playing music I like, but rather emote through my gear. Anxiety sprinkled with a healthy dose of depression. Korg Multi/Poly, Roland P-6, SH-4D, and SP-404 MK2.
Didn’t care much for my first Jamuary piece yesterday so I decided to move away from “slow and poignant with casiotone drums” toward something closer to The Locust. Nymphes keys, Hydra on filthy disgusting bass, everything else is DT1. I feel great about this one.
I think I’ve managed to listen to everything so far (with a couple repeat listens too), very inspiring! I’m really enjoying all the different sounds, styles, and approaches.
todays is from the sp404 and synths. its been a while since ive done a resample method tune so this was a fun challenge. ended up longer than it needs to be, but it felt jammy. the standing desk is a huge improvement. chairs suck, im about couches and standing
