Choke Group

Any tips ( if any ) to achieve a Choke Group for Channels selected as Drum?

I don’t know, maybe change and lock the voice allocation for the percussion channels to only one voice each so that the track is no longer polyphonic? I’m pretty sure you can do that from the voice page.

Same behavior for all audio machines.
I found a workaround with layer, will elaborate asap…

On og digitone if you use the arp for percussion (ie arp being used to retrigger the hi hat as the track sound), using another drum or cymbal hit from the sound pool on the same track (sound locked) will choke the arp.

Thanks will try

How about putting in a (almost) silent trig on the drum track, with a NEI condition? Wouldn’t this mute the drum if the neighbor track plays? You will have to make the drum track monophonic, of course.

From the Track Setup… Ok See what I can get,

I guess so.

Proof :

Now have a guess what is the principle, shown in the video…:content:

T3 hihats
T2 snares
T1 kicks

Edit : nobody interested by this workaround ?

go on then, i’ll bite - how you doing that, cleverclogs?

Well…me

Ahh someone…

The principle is to trigger a track with silent track settings (Amp Vol 0) to mute it. I used preset locks having their own Amp Vol settings, so you can hear them.

In my exemple :
T1 kicks
T2 snares (amp vol 0)
T3 hihat (amp vol 0)

T1 has T2 and T3 as layers, so everytime it plays, other tracks play their default setting, AMP VOL 0 so they are muted.

T2 has T3, so it mutes T3.

I set 1 voice limit to T2 and T3, not sure if it’s necessary…

Edit : it is necessary.

Wow ! Such a great tip, it also works on OG DN
I tried it yesterday but I used it with melodic stuff. It allows to have random patch on every step. And I also tried it with same patch on two tracks but two different melodies, it allows to randomly change to choosen notes and even morph from a melody to an another (100% trig probability plays the main melody on first track, 0% plays the second melody on layered track, all values between jump randomly from a melody to the other).

Did that too.

Caveats are the need to plock amp (I have to try velocity), and the fact that notes are cut because of monophonic setting. Maybe a way to improve this ?

Because of the monophonic settings, I send the sounds into a huge reverb to add pseudo release but it’s a messy workaround :broken_heart:

I tried it again, first track can be polyphonic but the layered one must be monophonic. Maybe with multiple layered tracks that have the same melody and various trig probability on different tracks, it could do a pseudo polyphonic patch by randomly jump from a track to another. Will try this evening (but I only have the OG for the moment so only four tracks to play with…)

Waiting for a Choke Group page and random arp for generative heaven !

I just tried it again with four tracks on OG DN.
First track (no voice setting, so using 5 voices of polyphony) layers T2, 3 and 4.
T2 layers 3 and 4.
T3 layers 4.
First melody on track 1, second melody on track 2, 3 and 4.
Trig probability is set at 50% on track 2 and 3 (100% for track 4).
T2, 3 and 4 are set to monophonic.

When T1 is on 0% probability, a trigger has 50% of chance to happen on T2, if not it has 50% of chance to happen on T3, if not it always happen on T4. So basically, it made a random round robin between three voices. So it doesn’t work like polyphony would normally do on Digitone (by rotating between voices) but it allows to do a pretty satisfying polyphony (but sometimes two notes in a row are triggered on the same track and so it cuts the previous note).
And of course, it doesn’t work with chords (because a chord is contained in a single trig), workaround would be to set a 3 three notes chord on 3 different trigs and then use microtiming to make them happen in the same time.
Edit : the workaround with micro timing to generate 3 notes chord on second melody works more or less… :upside_down_face:

Hi @sezare56 i’ve followed your video and explanation but not sure to have set it up correctly:

Track 1:

  • Layers track 2 and 3 (more if needed)
  • Trig on each step

Track 2/3:

  • Max voice set to 1
  • Amp set to 0
  • Trigless Trig (yellow) on each step with Amp Plocked to 100 (or more)

when moving probabilities i’m kind of having the choke effect but still having multiple track playing at the same time. Not sure if it’s intended or not

anyway I love this kind of generative driven beats mixed with more straightforward pattern it’s a perfect combo!
