I have a MIDI Twister, which is a fantastic controller for my software, but if I wanted to use it with my Digitakt, my understanding is that I would need a Bomebox.
Given that the Bomebox is nearly $400AUD, it’s a hell of a lot of money for a MIDI dongle, so I was wondering if there are any other solutions that could work?
I know the Bomebox has other functionality, which may justify that price tag, but really I just want to connect my MT to my DT, so the price seems really expensive.
I’m not really familiar with bomebox but it looks like a USB midi host device, is that what you’re looking for is something to interface class compliant USB with din? Or do you need some kind of remapping feature as well (I assume that the reason bomebox is expensive is because it has more advanced functionality).
I don’t have a twister but I’ve used a korg usb midi controller with a cheap standalone host device and it worked fine. I paid about $45 USD and I can link you to the one I have if you want.
A kenton of similar capabilities would cost about $90ish usd and be of better quality.
There’s that timepod controller still in kickstarter phase or 16nx with faders, both with midi trs ports. Pretty sure you can build or buy a midi host box a lot cheaper than $400 though if you already have the twister.
This one above retails for like $40 USD and it works for me. I don’t know if I’ll get 10 years out of it but who knows these days.
You can find the Kenton or others by searching “USB midi host device” with or without a brand name. It needs to be a host otherwise it won’t fill the role of the computer in between the two.
If you need more advanced functionality, I can think of at least one other host device (plexus midi router) that is pretty capable but costs a bit less than the one you initially mentioned. If your needs are as stated where you just want the 2 to work together, then I don’t think you need an expensive one.
Didn’t know that one yet from Behringer! It’s just too bad they didn’t include the standard USB plug as well.
You might enjoy the ones from CME better if you’re using USB-A… they have 2 versions…
