Digitone sounds erased (and gone forever (i'm very sad))

Hi people,

Yesterday I plugged my digitone as I was intended to play at an event today so I could work a bit.

I loaded the project from the liveset I planned to play (I didn’t loaded it for some weeks)
How surprised was I when I noticed every single sound of the project was reseted to the default sound (basic sin algo 1)

Every sounds except the patterns from the bank 9, where every sounds in every patterns from this bank had been replaced by other presets…

I don’t understand how it’s possible, I don’t understand what happened

The only thing i think about could be a memory problem ?
Also, some weeks ago I loaded some presets I found on the internet using USB transfer and it moved some presets from bank to bank, I have no idea if it could be that

I think my project is lost, but I REALLY don’t want it to happen to my other projects.

Have some of you experienced any similar situation ? Can some of you tell me where it’s coming from ?
Is there any way to recover my project ?

Please help me understand, thank u

It’s probably something to do with this.

Do you have a backup you could revert to?

No I don’t have one

What should have been done to have one ? “Save to computer” on the transfer soft ?

Actually I had so much trust in the machine I didn’t think of doing backups before

Yep, via transfer. Easy to do, but also easy to forget to do.

It doesnt sound like an issue with the machine but more likely the presets that you loaded onto it- maybe they were corrupted, or they disrupted the placement/hierarchy of the pre-existing layout of your presets, or some sort of user error during the process of loading them onto the machine. Im just guessing tho.

Ok, this makes sense, but there is another detail I don’t understand,
This project is the only one encountering this issue,
Older and newer projects are untouched,

Do you think presets file could have been corrupted, damaging a project file ?

Every single time I plug my Digis to the computer, I make a backup of all my projects and sounds.

Maybe someone has good ideas what to try. Like, FUNC+NO.

I will now remember to do so

Func + no does nothing

ahh ok. thats weird then, ive no idea what that could be about, other than if the only variable in all this is the installing of new presets then id guess the root of the issue lies there somehow, given thats the only thing that youve adjusted recently(?)

Save your project to another name.
Use transfer to backup all your projects and sounds.
Contact Elektron support.

Have you upgraded the firmware lately?

Already tried to save it w a new name

I’ll save everything

No I didn’t upgrade it !

Weird.
Well check with Elektron support in case they have a solution to suggest.

Ok

Thank you all for your advices, actually i’m not even looking for a solution to recover my file but I want to understand the problam so I’m not doing the same mistakes in the future

I’ll start making save often, it will do the job for now I guess

This may be relevant. On M:C or M:S, while using transfer in an electrically noisy environment (and with non-elektron USB cables) I sometime had odd events on the two models including

  • current project started playing
  • freezes on the model with complete rubbish screen display.

I’ve not seen the same on the DT2, possibly because I have always used the elektron cable with that.

So I’d say it’s just about possible that your problems result from unshielded usb cables, in a noisy electrical environment, corrupting the data on the way to the DN ?

I could be talking rubbish … there might be error-correcting protocols in the USB transfer … but I definitely experienced those symptoms on the two models, no matter what the cause.

Do you have a Digitone 2 by any chance? If you created your set in Perform Kit mode, that could explain your sounds being gone.

But, in all likelihood they didn’t sound as good as you remember. Every new project has the chance to improve on the last one, so here’s your chance to leapfrog!

Ahaha, I like your optimism

(No it’s the og DN)

I thought the OG DN kept the sounds on a pattern saved to the pattern, it doesn’t have kits and if you load a preset and change it on a pattern it keeps the modified sound in the track.

Perhaps there’s some optimisation in the code to only hold a reference to the sound bank position until some modification is done, only way I can think of where losing all of your sounds in the sounds bank would impact the patterns’ sounds
