Clank uranograph

An unexpected new instrument from Clank was presented today.
An expressive synth with touch plate, micro tonality, looper an FX.

Beautiful design if you ask me and very attractive feature set. Knowing what they released in euro land I’m looking forward to hear it in action and see how you can perform with it!

Good luck for Clank on the future release.

Wow. If they can pull it off, this is going to be an amazing machine for those who want a really expressive, performance-oriented, experimental synth. Plus the milled aluminum body sounds classy like Nagras. I am going to have to go back and read it all again because it just kept coming with feature after feature. Excited to see what the future holds here.

Yeah, this looks fun. Will probably be out of my price range. PhaseMod and a looper?!! A lot of features to live up to. Will be watching this one.

Definitely looks interesting, but too much going on for me, looks too busy. But I’m one of them people that thinks the Solar 50 is better than the Solar 42, so fuck what I think.

Wow, I haven’t even heard a single sound and I’m in love!

Same here. Looks so sci-fi that i am thinking of selling my car to buy this. No sound demo needed.

This is gorgeous. I have the Clank Chaos module, really well designed, very usable. The sound will absolutely be the deciding factor (and the price of course) but the writeup is looking pretty positive so far. Fingers crossed.

It looks like Darth Vader’s keyboard and I want it

I would actually agree with that. I’ve tried both now and the 50 is unapologetically about doing the one thing. I found the 42 harder to get started on, that awkward moment at the synth shop where you’re like “why isn’t it doing anything?”

I think the difference here for me is that they’re starting out with all this stuff rather than adding modes, and what I can see of the panel glyphs aren’t too arbitrary, though that tiny screen (I think?) gives me some pause. It is 35x36cm so there should be room to work.

VESA mounting holes would be nice. Doesn’t look as if it will sit well in most conventional stands.

More or less my thoughts when seeing this picture

Hideous. I dont care what it does, its an eyesore.

And the name. Uranograph? Really?

Different strokes for different folks.

Wow! I just remembered that we actually live in a future, but it’s sadly not futuristic enough

They might have done better with µranograph, which I think is what was intended, and sounds slightly less than a workplace drug test. [Edit: the photos make it clear that it’s a reference to Bode’s “Uranographia”, published 1801.]

I feel like I have seen Spock playing something like it.

This looks pretty incredible and expensive…
this is definitely something I’ll be on the lookout for!

Very interesting. I love that it’s designed to play as an instrument, and not a box, or something part of another system. Very intentional which is risky and great.

I wouldn’t be interested, but definitely looking forward to see what others do with this. Hope to see it in an actual performance, not a synthfluencer post.

My current guess is that this will land at a price that I can afford (in terms of number of zeroes in my bank account) but I will not be willing to pay (because I am parsimonious). But the sound demos will be the deciding factor.

What I find interesting is that they have a clear idea on what they want this instrument to be.

The synth section is not a catch all synthesis digital vst but a define set of tools that needs to be understood and mastered (different to the soma terra)

Also the looper clearly make it standalone but why not a sequencer or appegiator which is more common.

I’m also curious on how do you play it. Is standing an option, should the touch plates be in front or you etc … I feel the design has been thoughtful but I don’t see it yet.

I was instantly excited about this. I have a Clank Chaos and it’s one of my favorite modules, such a smart design and very well made. I can only imagine the same care has gone into the Uranograph (name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like “Chaos” but I’ll get the hang of it).
