Dave Mech - Determined EP // DN1, DT1, Tracker, Syntrx

Hey fellow Nauts,

After about two (three??) years without an original release (fatherhood  ) I finally released a new EP. It;s the first time I fully self-released an EP as well. The tracks are all live recorded and were originally uploaded to YouTube. Really happy to have these mastered and released now.

Listen / Get the release here:

You can see the original live recordings here in one go with the mastered audio underneath here:

Also available on pretty much all streaming platforms and beatport. Also on soundcloud.

Tracklist:

  1. Dtrmnd - Minimalist dub techno with a proper house influence. Made with Digitone 1)
  2. Thair - Minimalist uptempo dub techno with electronica influences. Made with Digitakt 1
  3. Unchain - Ambient tech heavily leaning on my love for soundscapes. Made with DT, DN, Syntrx and fx (microcosm and ventris)
  4. Volgen - Trippy dub techno. Long track but the trip is worth it I think. Made with Polyend Tracker

Mastering is done by Steve Voidloss (Black Monolith Mastering).

Hope you enjoy these! Cheers

Congratulations Dave! Looking forward to having a listen to this later. Itā€™s nice to see you coming out of your hiatus, however, I think that fatherhood probably counts as making an original release too.

Thanks !

@shigginpit nice  curious what you think of it. And yeah 2 original releases even  turning 2 and 4 this May. Our hope is that weā€™re 2 years away from bliss compared to the destroyers they are now. (Itā€™s also a lot fun of course  )

Unchain is my favourite track from the EP, sounds so dense from the start! And noisy, which i like. Imho the MNNT movement is where techno is having a comback after all that hard techno over the last couple of years.

I was lucky to have a listen early, I like your rather dark and kind of ā€œsettledā€ sound anyway, ā€œUnchainā€ is a nice soundscape to get lost in, I do so rn

Especially impressive that you recorded all of that live. you know Im all about creating things in the moment, but I dont think I could be disciplined enough, honestly!
An album (or EPā€¦five tracks is a large EP!) done live is something different!

Im also always curious when it comes to dub techno, because I tend to make it cheesy as soon as I go into that directionā€¦
I think Unchain is my fav so far

I was most drawn to the first track myself, then found the chance to watch the performance of it really cool too. Congrats on the release!

Could you tell more about this? Iā€™m unfamiliar with it and couldnā€™t find anything meaningful with google.

To stay on topic, great tracks! I enjoy listening to your style of techno. Favorites: Dtrmnd and Unchained.

Its Ambient/ Hypnotic Techo, it can get quiet driving also. Long evolving sets with mystery and surprises.

I thought it was really well mixed and I appreciate that you kept sporadic melodic elements throughout most compositions as opposed to just the deep builds. Each piece is sonically unique so as to not feel like youā€™re listening to the same track 4 times, but these works are cohesive enough together to feel like a proper release. Glad you shared this Dave, thanks.

Also thought that what I perceive to be the effect of the mastering was quite good too. All elements are represented and feel equally cared for and there is consistency across the playlist. Definitely makes our home studio mixes feel like they underperform in the face of a pro master job. Kudos to the engineer Steve for that. Money well spent!

Just thought Iā€™d follow up to let you know that it was a nice listen.
