Who uses “Media" on Elektronauts

I see that there are some spammers on the “Media” list…
It’s barely usable to me, and I never go there.
Would you mind giving me some feedback please?
I would very likely see it removed.

  • I post things there
  • I check what’s there at least once a month
  • I rarely go there
  • It’s useless to me, I wouldn’t notice if it wasn’t there anymore

I would have voted that it’s useless if I didn’t go today to check stuff about Octatrack sample chains.
(Result of my visit was useless, btw…)

is that section curated by anyone?

The only time I go there is when I accidentally click it.

I used to go there quite often. Tailed off the last year or two. Most ppl post vids of their jams. Whilst I might like the music, I don’t learn much from watching hands and screens, and I know what most of the gear looks like now.

I like the media section for most of it but submitting to the section needs to be at least by existing users, the “clickperinstall” ad annoying af and wouldn’t be possible.
another thing that annoys me are new users that use this as link farm, posting telegram links and whatnot.
I don’t know how it works but imo the submissions needs to be protected by user status same way as the marketplace categories are.

in general if not many people use it I think it’s safe to remove it as we have the “Our Music” category for music stuff and the “Sandbox” for files, not as easy to filter but noone actually uploads that much files anyway

I always forget this section, I think it would be more relevant to display it in the “news” page sidebar.

Nope.
It’s barely accessible, everything in there get lost in the void.
I think it’s sometimes used as a spamming ad recipient (only by registered users though).
There should definitely be at least an involvement level required to post there, to avoid spamming, good idea.

Would be great if you could filter by like genre or whether it’s a jam or a release

I just mis-click myself into that realm by accident. Always wondering if it had an initial purpose?

There’s loads of media content in the rest of the forum. Some useful, some entertaining, a lot annoying. But that’s also just a (very personal) view that’s less important than one might think to oneself…

Edit: If you ask me, dump it.
2nd Edit: Media as a section has some official notion to it. Like it was curated by Elektron. That I would probably appreciate.

I wouldn’t be opposed like many others if the section was removed or closed, but a public read only back up of the section should definitely be made before that happens. There are definitely some Machinedrum & monomachine files there that only exist there afaik.

Edit: correction I thought Media & Files were the same place! So disregard my post. Long live the Files section

I remember downloading digitone cheatsheet and rytm filter table from Media, I guess the idea of Media was having a resource you can filter to access community shared files, but now it’s jams only, which can easily be shared in the regular categories

That feels a bit instagram/tik-tok-y. Not neccessarily a bad thing, but as others have pointed out we should have better moderation/user level threshholds at least

Right. I might have done something similar in the past…. Or was there a separate „files“ section somewhere?!

That section with:

  • a filter to remove YouTube
  • option to upload files to discourse player (like current sounds)
  • option to comment

I might be missing something, but current sounds is a great thread full of gold, I don’t see why the ‘media’ section wouldn’t be of similar value

ah, you are right, it was the Files section, I thought it was under Media for some reason

Oh boy, that seems to have lost its purpose also…

@LyingDalai while you are thinking of cleaning up, could you possibly have a look what’s going on under “Files” also?

I always figured its purpose was to get people to spam stuff somewhere I wouldn’t look  like a red herring of where you should post your videos.

I think it’s ok there, maybe a post limit of 1 per week? If people spam there at least it doesn’t go to the main forum, so it helps to not clog things up. Although I see people cross posting, so maybe a rule around that.

I like the section, I do accidentally click it too. Mostly peoples vids wind up in threads, so you see the same thing there.

I think the problem with media is it has no engagement, no likes, no comments - if it had some interactivity users might use it more.

It’s a useful space that if given some attention could become quite good.

Please don’t remove, I like it and have recently started to post a few bits. I like checking it sometimes and seeing what people have uploaded.

I would like to be able to leave comments on posts there though, otherwise it feels like they are in a void.
