Muting forum members

Is there a way to mute a forum member so that any posts they make do not show up in threads I regularly read? Recently this forum has too many posters who just post links to their music and videos rather than contributing to the discourse. Thanks.

you go to their user profile and select ignore or mute as you want

or from your user profile in the preferences > users section

You can also do it in your own profile but you have to enter the settings and create a list, some profiles are private so it’s taking a longer path to the same end.

If you’re on a desktop you have to go preferences > users

From there, you have to make sure you update the list or it won’t stick.

This is the way. Only annoying thing is their replies to other people’s topic still show but are hidden. I for one cannot ignore something that’s hidden from me, which defeats the purpose, same as with flagged posts.

that “hidden” link is like forbidden fruit, just asking to be bitten

funny thing is that if you mute a post it will be hidden completely, but not users for some reason

I think it’s just the way the forum code is written.

I only have the option for Normal or Mute (no ignore option).

Most annoying one of these is people dropping their “review” video on day one and not even adding a few words to make us feel special.

ah, I guess it’s something to do with user status, it will come with time I guess

Damn. Looks like I have to keep seeing their smug face in their avatar too.

It will still show you their avatar regardless. There’s a guide on how to get your level up from basic member to regular member, I’ll find it for you.

I didn’t know that.

I’m testing it for @shigginpit, @craig and @alechko.

I mean like if someone starts a thread or if they posted in it as a “top poster” or whatever, you know the thing next to the post count etc, it still shows. Not in the content of the thread though so like 400 post threads it’s unlikely, but most threads aren’t that big.

Here is the thing that goes over advancing in status as a forum member:

You have to do some side quests like a video game or something.

Or a feedback loop.
