San Mateo - Exspiravit Luminaria

I released this last week, free/pay what you want on BC until the end of the week and it gets released on all the other platforms. If you like string heavy soundtrack ambient a kin to God Speed and Stars of the Lid, with a little bit of shoegaze and I don’t know, other non beat driven sad stuff this just might be your cup of tea. All done with a Digitone, Peak, and Blackbox. Sequenced via the Digitize and tracked and mixed in Live. Enjoy.

Yeah this is a really nice composition, are those physically modeled woodwind type sounds?

How did you go about making them?

Thank you!

Not physical modeled, I built a pretty large library of multi samples for organic instruments like the oboe you hear there and the solo violin parts. Loaded the multis in the Black Box and played/sequenced via the Digitone. The real tricky part came from going through each step and making sure they all had different note lengths and velocity/volumes as well and leaning in on trig conditions all to ensure it felt as “human” as possible. To be honest It was a ton of work and might be why it’s taking me so long to write anything new. While exhausting I really did love the process and learned a ton.

It’s such a beautiful composition @SanMateo ! It’s really expressive and emotional. Great release! Thanks @shigginpit for the post!

Digitone II can do this now.

Thank you so much! Very appreciated, truly. It’s honestly surprising to get responses from a now 3 year old release.

Yes! I have one and just started scratching the surface. It definitely would have made things easier on me thats for sure, I would have killed for 128 steps back then as well.

You know, I only pointed a finger at something which was already nice. Don’t let a catalyst for some exposure underscore your achievement because nobody would confirm what I said if it had no truth to it.

You never know when someone could use a kind word or some small recognition, and as long as it’s something which is true, then to call it out or deliver a heart is really the backbone of artists working as a community, especially if they enjoy the same small things themselves.

You support people in this community all the time, so thank you for that, but this was already a nice release and all I did was say something which is true.

Looking forward to your next work :v:
