Streltsov\, a circus veteran from Moscow\, is the only aerialist to perform with the Bolshoi Ballet. After winning the gold medal at the prestigious Festival du Mondial in Paris\, he starred in a Broadway production. His music and programming sensibilities combined with performance background provide a program with stunning three dimensional visual and musical elements. Residing in Buffalo\, NY\, she pursues the art of musical storytelling with an array of composers\, musicians\, and organizations. \n\n\nAlex’s appreciation for many different genres of music\, including classical and instrumental jazz/improvisation\, began at a very young age. Her desire to vocally portray stories of many backgrounds led her to study musical theatre\, classical voice\, and jazz at University at Buffalo\, all while establishing herself onstage in Buffalo’s artistic community.  \n\n\nWhen not performing under her own name at a variety of venues in the Buffalo area\, Alex keeps busy writing her own music and working alongside musicians and friends on various projects – she is often invited as a guest for a variety of performances and events. Still fostering a love for many art forms\, Alex stays active performing and giving workshops within the music\, theatre\, and choral communities in the greater Niagara region\, including Vocalis Chamber Choir\, Nathaniel Dett Chorale\, Musicalfare Theatre\, Starring Buffalo\, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Education Program\, and Community Music School of Buffalo. \n\n\nThis is Alex’s second year working with the BPO’s Education program as a concert host. Special thanks to Robin\, Rachael\, and Fernanda of the Education team for inviting her to be a part of this impactful work. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Finale: Allegro moderato \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nAbout David Lockington\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nDavid Lockington returns to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with 40 years of experience conducting in the US and Europe. In addition to Music Director positions with orchestras in California\, Michigan\, New Mexico\, Ohio\, Colorado\, Wyoming\, and New York\, he has guest conducted dozens of other orchestras. His longest tenure was with the Grand Rapids Symphony from 2000-2016. Lockington was also Principal Guest Conductor for OSPA in Oviedo\, Spain for almost 10 years. He will return to the ASMI Festival this summer in Italy. \nLockington has made 10 recordings\, including one playing his own works for cello. The recording with harpist Deborah Henson Conant and the Grand Rapids Symphony was nominated for a GRAMMY Award. Other recordings include single composer albums by Adolphus Hailstork\, Philip Sawyers\, and Avner Dorman. His recording with Dylana Jenson and the London Symphony Orchestra of the Barber and Shostakovich violin concertos is fast becoming a classic. \nLockington grew up in London\, England\, and after attending Cambridge University\, emigrated to the US in 1978 to study with Aldo Parisot and Otto-Werner Mueller at Yale. He started his conducting career while still playing as Assistant Principal Cello with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nAbout Stewart Goodyear\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nProclaimed “a phenomenon” by the Los Angeles Times and “one of the best pianists of his generation” by The Philadelphia Inquirer\, Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished concert pianist\, improviser\, and composer. Mr. Goodyear has performed with\, and been commissioned by\, many of the major orchestras and chamber music organizations around the world. \nLast year\, Orchid Classics released Mr. Goodyear’s recording of his suite for piano and orchestra\, “Callaloo\,” and his piano sonata. His recent commissions include a piano quintet for the Penderecki String Quartet\, and a piano work for the Honens Piano Competition. \nMr. Goodyear’s discography includes the complete sonatas and piano concertos of Beethoven\, as well as concertos by Tchaikovsky\, Grieg and Rachmaninoff\, an album of Ravel piano works\, and an album entitled “For Glenn Gould\,” which combines repertoire from Mr. Gould’s U.S. and Montreal debuts. His Rachmaninoff recording received a JUNO nomination for Best Classical Album for Soloist and Large Ensemble Accompaniment. Mr. Goodyear’s recording of his own transcription of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker (Complete Ballet)” was chosen by the New York Times as one of the best classical music recordings of 2015. His discography is released on the Marquis Classics\, Orchid Classics\, Bright Shiny Things\, and Steinway & Sons labels. His newest recording\, Adolphus Hailstork’s Piano Concerto with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under JoAnn Falletta\, was released in March 2023 on the Naxos label. His composition for solo cello and piano\, “The Kapok\,” was recorded by Inbal Negev and Mr. Goodyear on Avie Records\, and his suite for solo violin\, “Solo\,” was commissioned and recorded by Miranda Cuckson for the Urlicht AudioVisual label. \nHighlights for the 2023-24 season are his performances at Summer for the City (Lincoln Center\, NY)\, Southbank Centre (U.K.)\, Schleswig-Holstein Festival\, his recital debut at Wigmore Hall\, his debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra\, and his return with the Milwaukee Symphony\, Buffalo Philharmonic\, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society\, and his Carnegie Hall debut with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

In addition to Music Director positions with orchestras in California\, Michigan\, New Mexico\, Ohio\, Colorado\, Wyoming\, and New York\, he has guest conducted dozens of other orchestras. His longest tenure was with the Grand Rapids Symphony from 2000-2016. Lockington was also Principal Guest Conductor for OSPA in Oviedo\, Spain for almost 10 years. He will return to the ASMI Festival this summer in Italy. \nLockington has made 10 recordings\, including one playing his own works for cello. The recording with harpist Deborah Henson Conant and the Grand Rapids Symphony was nominated for a GRAMMY Award. Other recordings include single composer albums by Adolphus Hailstork\, Philip Sawyers\, and Avner Dorman. His recording with Dylana Jenson and the London Symphony Orchestra of the Barber and Shostakovich violin concertos is fast becoming a classic. \nLockington grew up in London\, England\, and after attending Cambridge University\, emigrated to the US in 1978 to study with Aldo Parisot and Otto-Werner Mueller at Yale. He started his conducting career while still playing as Assistant Principal Cello with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nAbout Stewart Goodyear\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nProclaimed “a phenomenon” by the Los Angeles Times and “one of the best pianists of his generation” by The Philadelphia Inquirer\, Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished concert pianist\, improviser\, and composer. Mr. Goodyear has performed with\, and been commissioned by\, many of the major orchestras and chamber music organizations around the world. \nLast year\, Orchid Classics released Mr. Goodyear’s recording of his suite for piano and orchestra\, “Callaloo\,” and his piano sonata. His recent commissions include a piano quintet for the Penderecki String Quartet\, and a piano work for the Honens Piano Competition. \nMr. Goodyear’s discography includes the complete sonatas and piano concertos of Beethoven\, as well as concertos by Tchaikovsky\, Grieg and Rachmaninoff\, an album of Ravel piano works\, and an album entitled “For Glenn Gould\,” which combines repertoire from Mr. Gould’s U.S. and Montreal debuts. His Rachmaninoff recording received a JUNO nomination for Best Classical Album for Soloist and Large Ensemble Accompaniment. Mr. Goodyear’s recording of his own transcription of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker (Complete Ballet)” was chosen by the New York Times as one of the best classical music recordings of 2015. His discography is released on the Marquis Classics\, Orchid Classics\, Bright Shiny Things\, and Steinway & Sons labels. His newest recording\, Adolphus Hailstork’s Piano Concerto with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under JoAnn Falletta\, was released in March 2023 on the Naxos label. He is highly sought after for his passionate renditions and extensive repertoire\, as well as his exceptional ability to connect with a global audience\, amassing a media following of millions of viewers who have tuned in to his music. \nChooi gained international recognition by winning First Prize at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in Hanover\, Germany\, and Second Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Competition. He also received the prestigious classical music award\, the “Yves Paternot Prize\,” at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. He has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin\, Belgian National Orchestra\, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic\, and Wiener Concert-Verein\, among others. His performances have garnered glowing reviews from venues such as Carnegie Hall\, Musikverein Wien\, Berlin Philharmonie\, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw\, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, The Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts joins the BPO for an in-depth side-by-side experience for the music department students\, while also providing a showcase for all the disciplines at BAVPA\, including visual arts\, media arts\, drama and dance. \nMusic students at BAVPA receive coaching sessions from BPO musicians leading up to the concert\, and students from other departments prepare dramatic scenes\, artwork\, visuals and choreography that is incorporated into the program. The public is invited free of charge to experience the talents of Buffalo’s rising artists.

Chafetz\, a conductor celebrated for his dynamic and engaging podium presence\, is increasingly in demand with orchestras across the continent\, and takes the podium this season for several appearances. He enjoys a special relationship with the Phoenix Symphony\, where he leads multiple programs annually. \nChafetz has had the privilege to work with renowned artists including Leslie Odom\, Jr.\, En Vogue\, Kenny G\, David Foster and Catherine McPhee\, The O’Jays\, Chris Botti\, 2 Cellos\, Hanson\, Rick Springfield\, Michael Bolton\, Kool & The Gang\, Jefferson Starship\, George Benson\, Richard Chamberlain\, John Denver\, Marvin Hamlisch\, Thomas Hampson\, Wynonna Judd\, Jim Nabors\, Randy Newman\, and many others. \nHe previously held posts as Resident Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra. As principal timpanist of the Honolulu Symphony for twenty years\, Chafetz would also conduct the annual Nutcracker performances with Ballet Hawaii and principal players from the American Ballet Theatre. It was during that time that Chafetz led numerous concerts with the Maui Symphony and Pops. He has led numerous Spring Ballet productions at the world-renowned Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. \nWhen not on the podium\, Chafetz makes his home near San Francisco\, CA\, with his wife Ann Krinitsky. Chafetz holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati\, and a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nAbout Dee Donasco\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nPraised as an artist who embraces vocal versatility\, Philippine-born soprano Dee Donasco has attracted attention with a voice that crosses a variety of musical genres. Equally at home with opera\, oratorio or recital\, jazz and pop\, musical theater\, and accomplished in classical works ranging from Baroque to modern contemporary\, she brings rewarding vocal and dramatic range to her work. \nThis performance season\, Dee makes her singing debut with the Edmonton Symphony\, in addition to the BPO. She returned to perform with the Columbus Symphony for a series of Holiday Pops concerts\, and returns to the Nashville Opera to perform the role of Papagena for Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In a very busy 2022-23 season\, Dee made her mainstage debut with Nashville Opera as Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti’s The Medium. She also made her performance debuts as a featured guest artist with the Columbus Symphony for the Patriotic Pops concert and gala event\, and with the Seattle Symphony for Holiday Pops. At less than a day’s notice she made her debut with the Nashville Symphony for Music City Christmas\, getting to perform alongside country music star\, Mickey Guyton. Other performances for that season include her return to sing with the Chautauqua Symphony for the Independence Day Celebration\, the Marin Symphony for Holiday Pops\, and the Gyros String Quartet in Dallas\, for Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. \nDee made her international debut on a concert tour of Ireland in 2016. She has appeared as a featured guest artist with the Detroit Symphony\, Chattanooga Symphony and Opera\, Kingsville Symphony\, North Carolina Symphony\, Jacksonville Symphony\, and the Dallas Symphony. She also performed for the Duke Ellington Foundation’s Holiday Celebration in New York City\, in addition to her critically acclaimed performances as the title role in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne and as Alba in Rodriguez’ La Curandera with Opera Piccola San Antonio. She made her Dallas Symphony debut as the featured guest artist for the 2011 New Year’s Eve concert. She also appeared as Mahalath in the world premiere of Mark Peterson’s A New Nation\, and later performed as a guest artist on the U.S. national tour of the world-renowned group\, The Priests – Irish tenors – in 2013. \nA prodigy\, winning the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) of the Philippines at age 10\, she has continued to win numerous awards\, including first place in the San Antonio Vocal Competition and the SMU Meadows Concerto Competition\, second place in the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition\, and third place in the Lois Alba Aria Competition and the Jensen Foundation Voice Competition. A regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition in 2011\, Dee returned to Opera North to sing Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro\, after making her company debut in 2010 as Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In 2009\, she made her debut at the San Antonio Opera as Ines in Verdi’s Il trovatore. Other noted operatic roles she has performed are Laurie in Copland’s The Tender Land\, Euridice in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld\, and Aminta in Mozart’s Il re pastore. Her concert works include the Coronation Mass and Requiem by Mozart\, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass\, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater\, Michael Haydn’s Requiem\, Bach’s Magnificat\, Orff’s Carmina Burana\, Handel’s Messiah\, Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres\, Britten’s Les Illuminations\, Chausson’s Poéme de l’amour et de la mer\, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. \nDee earned her master’s degree in music and Performance Diploma at Southern Methodist University with a full artistic scholarship. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She served as Adjunct Professor of Voice and Lyric Theatre at the University of Dallas for four years prior to moving to Tennessee. Her most cherished and greatest achievement to date is being a mother of two beautiful human beings. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nAbout Jeffrey Biegel\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nIn an age when many artists’ fortunes begin with a meteoric ascent and quickly cool with the inexorable free-fall\, pianist Jeffrey Biegel has managed to buck that trend\, fashioning a career of steady success studded with concerts at major venues with major orchestras\, a GRAMMY-winning recording\, and more than 25 commissioned works by living composers. His life takes its roots from age three\, barely able to hear nor speak\, until corrected by surgery. The ‘reverse Beethoven’ phenomenon explains his lifelong commitment to music\, having heard only vibrations in his formative years. The pandemic year of 2020 focused on composing original “Waltzes of Hope\,” “Sonatina\,” and “Three Reflections: JFK\, RBG and MLK” for solo piano\, and for piano and orchestra\, orchestrations by Harrison Sheckler. 2021 saw the world premieres of his “Reflection of Justice: An Ode to Ruth Bader Ginsburg” with the Dallas Symphony\, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s “Remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg” for mezzo-soprano\, piano and orchestra in tribute to the late Supreme Court Justice\, with mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves. 2021 also saw the world premiere of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s “Shadows\,” newly arranged for piano and seven players with the Idaho State Civic Symphony. In 2022\, he premiered Jim Stephenson’s piano concerto\, Daniel Perttu’s “A Planets Odyssey” for piano and orchestra\, Farhad Poupel’s “The Legend of Bijan and Manijeh” for piano\, orchestra and chorus\, his own concerto\, “Three Reflections: Freedom (JFK)\, Justice (RBG) Equality (MLK)\,” and Christopher Marshall’s “Thanksgiving Variations on ‘We Gather Together'”. For 2023\, the 50-state Rhapsody National Initiative began with the Utah Symphony leading a three-season effort with Peter Boyer’s “Rhapsody in Red\, White & Blue\,” with a world premiere recording of the new Rhapsody with Peter Boyer conducting the London Symphony Orchestra for a February 2024 Naxos digital release. In 2019\, Kenneth Fuchs’ “Piano Concerto: ‘Spiritualist'” with the London Symphony Orchestra led by JoAnn Falletta received a GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Compendium\, featuring Mr. Biegel as its soloist. He enjoys a special relationship with the Phoenix Symphony\, where he leads multiple programs annually. \nChafetz has had the privilege to work with renowned artists including Leslie Odom\, Jr.\, En Vogue\, Kenny G\, David Foster and Catherine McPhee\, The O’Jays\, Chris Botti\, 2 Cellos\, Hanson\, Rick Springfield\, Michael Bolton\, Kool & The Gang\, Jefferson Starship\, George Benson\, Richard Chamberlain\, John Denver\, Marvin Hamlisch\, Thomas Hampson\, Wynonna Judd\, Jim Nabors\, Randy Newman\, and many others. \nHe previously held posts as Resident Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra. Equally at home with opera\, oratorio or recital\, jazz and pop\, musical theater\, and accomplished in classical works ranging from Baroque to modern contemporary\, she brings rewarding vocal and dramatic range to her work. \nThis performance season\, Dee makes her singing debut with the Edmonton Symphony\, in addition to the BPO. She returned to perform with the Columbus Symphony for a series of Holiday Pops concerts\, and returns to the Nashville Opera to perform the role of Papagena for Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In a very busy 2022-23 season\, Dee made her mainstage debut with Nashville Opera as Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti’s The Medium. She also made her performance debuts as a featured guest artist with the Columbus Symphony for the Patriotic Pops concert and gala event\, and with the Seattle Symphony for Holiday Pops. At less than a day’s notice she made her debut with the Nashville Symphony for Music City Christmas\, getting to perform alongside country music star\, Mickey Guyton. Other performances for that season include her return to sing with the Chautauqua Symphony for the Independence Day Celebration\, the Marin Symphony for Holiday Pops\, and the Gyros String Quartet in Dallas\, for Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. \nDee made her international debut on a concert tour of Ireland in 2016. She has appeared as a featured guest artist with the Detroit Symphony\, Chattanooga Symphony and Opera\, Kingsville Symphony\, North Carolina Symphony\, Jacksonville Symphony\, and the Dallas Symphony. She also performed for the Duke Ellington Foundation’s Holiday Celebration in New York City\, in addition to her critically acclaimed performances as the title role in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne and as Alba in Rodriguez’ La Curandera with Opera Piccola San Antonio. She made her Dallas Symphony debut as the featured guest artist for the 2011 New Year’s Eve concert. She also appeared as Mahalath in the world premiere of Mark Peterson’s A New Nation\, and later performed as a guest artist on the U.S. national tour of the world-renowned group\, The Priests – Irish tenors – in 2013. \nA prodigy\, winning the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) of the Philippines at age 10\, she has continued to win numerous awards\, including first place in the San Antonio Vocal Competition and the SMU Meadows Concerto Competition\, second place in the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition\, and third place in the Lois Alba Aria Competition and the Jensen Foundation Voice Competition. A regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition in 2011\, Dee returned to Opera North to sing Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro\, after making her company debut in 2010 as Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In 2009\, she made her debut at the San Antonio Opera as Ines in Verdi’s Il trovatore. Other noted operatic roles she has performed are Laurie in Copland’s The Tender Land\, Euridice in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld\, and Aminta in Mozart’s Il re pastore. His life takes its roots from age three\, barely able to hear nor speak\, until corrected by surgery. The ‘reverse Beethoven’ phenomenon explains his lifelong commitment to music\, having heard only vibrations in his formative years.
