BUFFALO, NY – When JoAnn Falletta renewed her contract as BPO music director, it inspired one board member to issue a challenge to the community.

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Society Inc. board member Anthony Cassetta has committed to donate $75,000 to the BPO if a matching amount can be raised from the community by the end of the orchestra’s summer season. At the close of the BPO’s 2014-15 season, the orchestra announced the extension of Falletta’s contract through 2021. Although her contract was not up for another year, Falletta says she chose to renew early because of her deep commitment to Buffalo and her desire to work on long-range plans for the orchestra.

“Maestro Falletta has been an outstanding ambassador for Buffalo and our orchestra all around the world” said Cassetta. “Let’s show her how much Buffalo appreciates her dedication to our city and orchestra.”

“Buffalo is passionate about all its cultural assets, and we are optimistic that the community will embrace Mr. Cassetta’s challenge and support JoAnn Falletta and the musicians of the BPO,” said Jennifer Barbee, BPO Director of Development. “We are truly grateful for Mr. Cassetta’s, and the region’s, ongoing support of our orchestra.”

Those wishing to participate may call (716) 242-7899 or visit bpo.org to donate. Donors are encouraged to share their donation stories and to challenge others to give through social media, using #75Kin75days. Donations are tax-deductible.
