Doesn’t Elektron do it differently, where it reverts to the previous value after the p-locked step?
yup, it’s not the same as Elektron you’re right, move’s still different to push’s behaviour though. My Perkons p-locks are different again! Wish there was preferences on all these machines a bit like midi controller takeover/pick up options, so I could wrap my head around them a bit better!
What chatGPT says about Perkons is all wrong. It holds a parameter for the length of one step only.
I think I may have to just do a shoot out with my whole set of grooveboxes adjusting something obvious like pitch/transpose and jot down how they’re all behaving slightly differently.
I think this site’s policy is to not copy and paste AI results, right?
When chatGPT is spitting out pure misinformation, I think that’s a good policy
I don’t think there’s anything about posting AI results in the guidelines, I couldn’t see any? but yeah happy to take that result down if chatGPT is getting it wrong anyhow.
I’m just trying to get a clear picture of how they all work and compare, as even asking friends of mine who work at Ableton were a bit unclear of the differences between push and move.
Removed, as @AriHafposted the correct link below
This one
i have no opinion on this. i just wanted to post the link, didn’t want to correct anything, it all just came together. I accept the post as a consensus guideline. If we’re talking about guidelines, where can I find them? Sorry for the OT, I’m happy to delete my post.
14.2.4 Per-Step Automation
You can also save automation per step, which gives you more precise control over the placement of automation in time.
To add per-step automation, select the device or effect whose parameters you want to automate in the Device View, then hold a step button which contains a note and turn one of the encoders.
Once you touch an encoder, the step button LEDs following the step you are holding will turn red, indicating the automation time range. Typically, the automation time range extends to the note in the next step.
Trig Preview on Push?
There seems to be no way to audition a single step on Push. That is strange because, in Elektron devices, it is a major fine-tuning method that could greatly enhance the workflow of Push.
It seems to be almost there, but then not quite. When you hold a step in a drum rack, you have the ability to tweak the “trig locks” of that step. However, there is no button to listen to the selected step.
If you hit play, you will hear your changes, but only when that specific step is played—which can be tedious in a 64-step sequence. Additionally, you will hear the entire set rather than the step in isolation.
A functional pre-listen switch in the user preferences of Push, similar to what you have in Ableton, would be a great addition.
P.S.: When pre-listening to a note in the piano roll in Ableton, the envelopes’ states are ignored! So, there is no true step preview there either…
Should this be a feature request?
