Years ago I played around with REX breaks and using the original break audio with short envelopes so they only played the transients and then layered them over 808 drums. I thought it sounded great, but it was a pain to try to do on outboard gear.
I picked up a Digitone II recently and the transient feature on the FM Drum reminded me how great of a technique it is.
I’ve written a python script that takes a sample folder and then extracts all the detected transients out of them and then dumps them into a 127 transient sample chains (wav or syx).
Then load them onto ROM 24-48 on the Machinedrum and load them to a ROM kit slot and cut the Decay and Hold WAY down. I’ve evenly divided the transients into 127 spots in the sample so the Start parameter should pick up each one.
Should work great on Octatrack/Analog Rytm/Digitakt too I would think.
