Turn for small adjustments, push-turn for big adjustments. Can this be inverted? I push most of the time…
No.
Change your behaviour. You cant change the machine.
Exactly, changing the mindset is easier than praying for UI changes in firmware updates on a fairly mature product line :]
its still not a bad idea
Seems to me it would be much harder to make small precise changes when you simultaniously have to press the encoder down?
As it is now, when you want to precisly dial in a value, you can just use your finger tips and when you want broad coarse changes, you press it down and just turn.
if it was globally invertable, you’d use it both ways
Its more of a hindurance with the digis though cuz they dont have any performance macros
I don’t hate the current behaviour… it does make sense.
I am getting a Deluge, and its behaviour is the opposite. That’ll be fun (eg tempo knob is in large increments, push and turn for 1 bpm increments.)
No big deal really.
I do like with the current implantation how you can roll your finger around the top of the knob using it like you would a flat encoder or jog wheel. Analog Four really is very well thought out but of kit.
I almost went down the Octatrack Path but I think Deluge will be a lot more useful for me. (And the kids)
Do you have a A4 Mk1 or Mk2?
Cause Mk2 don’t need much pressing anymore, knob behavior is one of the benefits of upgrading.
this should be on Elektron development path:
would save so many km of unnecesary encoder spinning every week…
This interesting… I have the MKI:
- It’s the OG! Unlike OP-1 va OP-1 Field, the A4 MKI / MKII differences are pretty slight.
- MKI was in my budget. Crazy good value. No cheap MKII’s around
- I feel MKI will last longer with its plastic buttons, vs soft buttons on MKII
- The compact size is great
- I like the way the preset demo patterns (which I don’t use) sound vs the same patterns on MKII. Some sound quite odd on MKII, likely due to the overdrive differences, and those presets built for MKI didn’t directly translate.
I’d love the MKII for the individual outputs without modding mine, especially since even modding MKI you can’t remove the individual signal from main.
If the A4 MKI is like Machinedrum and Monomachine: Yes, a swapping option would be amazing. On these, I press the Encoders in almost all the time as well.
You can send a feature request to Elektron.
Always 1000x more likely to reach them than the forum.
On OT and AK, I press encoders probably 90% of the time. On the Rytm, I tend to do more precise adjustments.
I still think it wouldn’t be practical to do precise knob turning while having to press down on the encoder. Some parameters take quite a few turns (AR Mk1 sample position for example).
Someone mentioned you can turn the knobs like a jog wheel. That’s what I usually do. Can’t do that when I’d have to press down…
But Elektron can make it a menu option, then everyone would be happy and folks like me can give it a try.
