Please Help me for installing Overbridge any versions on Windows10 last updates

Hi,
last week my disk C (system hardisk) burned so Im re installing everything…now Im stuck on Overbridge that it works fine from 2018 untill last week.
My C: disk is pure with only Windows10 last updated, ableton and a few plugins…ok now I would like to re install Overbridge but nothing…it seems impossible.
I try with last overbridge version 2.13.4 usb cables for the elektron Digitakt1,Digitone1,Analog heat mk2 are disconnected and all the units off:) of course.
but I get this message:
***Elektron Overbridge 2.13.4 Setup Wizard ended prematurerly because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again.Click the Finish Button to exit the Setup Wizard.

I wrote to the support and they send me the 2.8.4 version that make exactly the same error.
Please some of you can suggest what I need to do? maybe some Windows setting or Windows Defender senttings or???
nohing by elektron is installed even Tranfer…nothing…zero…
I just replace my hardisk C with a new one and before OB working fine now is impossible to install it.

Thanks a lot
ANY HELP IS Really Appreciated !
Santos.

Just venturing a guess, but if your windows system was restored from a backup, try running the uninstaller for 2.13.4.

Hi,
thanks a lot for your reply…no Im not working on a system backup but re installing everything from zero…even Windows 10 is new.

thanks

Ok, so there is nothing in common from the old disk to the new? I would think that the error is a conflict and usually one would assume the conflict is either incompatibility with the system or with drivers/other software. Since you’re starting from zero I can’t imagine that there’s a conflict there, and I assume that you didn’t upgrade windows version (I still run windows 10 and have no issues so can’t imagine that would really matter).

I’ll see if I can think of anything else but definitely stay in contact with support on this one though so that they don’t close the case and cause you to restart the process.

Can you connect to ableton as an audio interface? I mean, outside of overbridge mode, just normal USB audio midi setting in the device menu. Just curious if the devices themselves are behaving.

yes exatly nothing from the old disk…all new.
the only thing Im thinking is if Windows Defener is doing some strange thing…or if I need to settings something on Windows 10…

thanks again

I never try this… I will do now
thanks

You don’t get a pop up asking for admin privileges? are you logged into the administrator account, or whichever account is primary for windows?

nope

Have you tried changing the windows defender setting to moderate or light instead of the full defense? Mine always makes a big show of telling me that someone is trying to access my settings do I want to allow, even when the person trying to make changes is Microsoft’s own security. I think that mine is on the max setting for defense, so it does it more frequently than I prefer.

Sounded like you’re getting an error but not a defense pop-up, so my interpretation is that either the defender is allowing the change or maybe for some reason it’s not displaying the warning / rejection.

I’ll think about it some more and see if anything else comes to mind. An error in the installation might mean that the disk path is somehow incorrect, or more specifically that the installer is attempting to write the information into a destination that does not exist. I’m not 100% certain how to check against that, there is probably a way but I’m not sure of the correct way to confirm.

My line of thinking is that if defender is allowing the installation process and USB devices are being recognized, then on a basic level you have gotten plug and play compatibility, but somehow the place where it’s attempting to install OB is not available or maybe some other conflict?

Did you use 32 bit apps before and now it’s 64 bit? Not sure how that would impact things but just trying to think of what might change within the same windows after doing a new install.

ok, I tried different settings plus also to exluding the Elektron Overbridge installation folder from windows Defender check…
nothing…always I get the same error.

Can you access the program files folder and see if an OB folder was already created by windows?

ok, not I always used the 64 bit apps before disk C burned and now.
thanks a lot

never tried because the error message says that nothing been modified and the installation of overbridge does`nt star…immedialty i get error message but I m checking now if some folder been created.
thanks
.I think you right about is some conflict…now is to understand where and what.

Yeah, no problem. Sorry to not be able to help with more measurable results. Let me know if you find any OB folder in the program files and I’ll think about this problem some more. I think that your best course of action is probably to stay in contact with support from elektron.

great man, I found a few overbridge files on disk C:
Elektron Overbridge folder inside Users/Appdata/Roaming
Elektron_Overbridge_2.13.4 Users/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/windo… size 734 byte

maybe I have to delate them and try again the installation?
please do you suggest to try with 2.13.4 or with 2.8.4?
thanks a lot

Ok now we’re getting somewhere. I would see if the uninstaller program will take care of it, just in case there is information written to the windows registries. I’m not advanced enough to help you locate the specific ones in the registry folder, but I do think that the uninstaller will attempt to remove them. I’d start by using the 2.13.4 uninstaller and then if it looks like it’s removed them, I’d then determine which version you want to try and load. If it were me I might attempt reinstalling the older version because I’m not reading any changes you made to device firmware, and the computer is essentially the same (just with a new disk installed) so there shouldn’t be a conflict with the old OB. I honestly don’t know why there are program folders for it but I did suspect there was something in there due to the installer conflict.

If the old version won’t install and causes an error, I’d attempt the newer OB at that point I think.
