NAMM & BAF 2025 - January 21 - 26

We’re down to the last week.

Big show that covers a lot of music technology, some of it even of interest here.

The Show

Show Map

ADDED : The parallel exhibition, Buchla & Friends is on Saturday and Sunday, the 25th and 26th, also in LA. There is a list of exhibitors in this post below. Anything related to BAF25 is on-topic here.

What’s going on ?

Lots of guitar stuff. Pedals.

Some attendees in the electronic synthesis world :

ASM / Medeli have booths next to each other. ASM has more or less announced they have no brand new synth to announce at NAMM.

Embodme is there, presumably to show their ERAE II.

Melbourne Instruments is there and there is indication they may have a new controller. ( thread )

inMusic has a booth, that includes eight of their brands, Moog and AKAI being a part of that. It seems likely there will be new things.

Music Tribe has a massive booth that includes their many brands. Expect new announcements and recent announcements to be on prominent display there from Behringer.

Stylophone has a booth.

Expressive E has a booth right next to ASM/ Medeli.

Groove Synthesis is there.

Korg is there with their brands, including all their guitar stuff.

Roland.

Yamaha the everything music company.

The MIDI Association is there with their MIDI Innovation Award booth. Hopefully some MIDI 2.0 stuff is awarded.

Others like Nonlinear Labs, Entropy & Sons, Mellotron, Bome Software, Kilohearts, Enjoy Electronics, Synclavier, Casio, Kawai, …

More no doubt.

I have been seeding various specific threads with references to NAMM and you can post to those threads or post here.

NAMM LA Wildfires Relief Fund

So far the show has been safe, the fires are quite a distance to the northwest. ( Announcement from show. )

was hoping for a “Big 12” but i guess not

It’s not just about the fires… all the hotels around there are either full or now being commandeered as part of the relief effort.

I’ve heard the Anaheim Convention Centre is one of the last remaining buildings of that size that hasn’t been taken over… yet.

I don’t think it’s certain to go ahead at this point.
I was due to go, I’ve cancelled the trip.

I hope I’m wrong.

The fact that they ran an announcement says a lot too. Any new official announcements – please post them.

LA residents in the affected areas aren’t gonna evacuate all the way down to Anaheim, for myriad reasons

I hope Korg drops a Multi/Poly module and VST. Would be wild if Roland put out a SH-X.

and adds MIDI 2.0 to it, so that it can work with Keystage, and DAWs. ( Someone please correct me if the Multi/Poly actually supports MIDI 2.0 like the other similar synths Korg makes. I am fairly certain it doesn’t yet.)

Pretty sure it doesn’t support MIDI 2.0. It does receive PolyAT.

Small thing ( unless you own the SEQTRAK ), Yamaha has a new firmware release 1.2 with sample looping, improved mutes, import and export of MIDI files, and other stuff. ( video )

is this still happening given the sad and tragic event happening in LA?

I missed that Nord is there -AND- they have a ‘new’ product.

Hammond Suzuki is also at the show, as well as Dexibell.

ADDED : Dexibell gave a sneak peek of their new portable piano VIVO S2 and of the CLASSICO L4 organ.

ADDED : About organs at NAMM. One of the large contingent attending NAMM every year are “Houses of Worship” so you can expect a good representation by organ makers at the show.

ADDED : Rhodes is also there. I could not find Wurlitzer despite their having a new product announced to be “in development”.

New product.

Reloop a company known for their DJ gear, is introducing their new MIDI controller at the show.

Keypad Pro

One of the intended uses for this controller is Bitwig with tight integration. It has 25-key keyboard, 16 aftertouch-enabled drum pads and eight channel strips, battery power option, and Bluetooth MIDI.

Very short video

( website seems to load very slowly )

€249/$249/£219

Awesome, although it would be better if it has 4 rows of pads + additional bank of encoders for currently selected track.

Looking forward to finding out more about it!

Sounds pretty dull so far.

Very sad about Los Angeles.

NAMM used to be the best time of the year…

I would love a Keytar version of that new Nord Organ :joy:

This is how a dual manual keytar has been done before.

( more )

ADDED : For more on-topic context, i believe this keytar was shown at NAMM 2020.

Looks like no Elektron (not unusual and makes sense)

Guess instead of attending NAMM I’m gonna scroll the Tonverk predictions thread from the top again and yearn
