Hi Elektronauts, friends of modular, sound explorers and more,
It would be fantastic to plan another gathering at the upcoming Superbooth 2025 in Berlin. May 8–10, 2025, from 10 AM to 9 PM, followed by an aftershow. There’s so much to catch up on – new instruments, evolving music styles, fresh faces, talented artists, fascinating soundscapes, exciting gear, and more.
I thought it might be a great idea to have a designated meeting point where we can kick off Superbooth 2025 together as a group? What are your ideas and plans so far?
I’m leaning towards a meetup on May 9, 2025—what do you think?
I am contemplating attending. I appreciate the posts made in the Superbooth 2024 thread. It’s hard to get a sense of what it would be like to attend. What are the logistics like? Is it crowded? What are the protocols to get to use equipment, and are there long lines? Are there places to sit down and recharge (I mean mentally, not my phone)? What is the food and drink situation like? I would probably just pack a sandwich and thermos, but last year’s terms said that food and drink are forbidden. I know different venues have different levels of strictness on such matters; what is this one like?
I highly recommend the experience. Getting to try a lot of gear, a lot of it niche, at a place like Superbooth is a great way to see, hands-on, what works and doesn’t work for you. That alone is worth the admission IMO. The first day, Thursday the 8th in this case, will be the least busy especially in the morning. A lot of booths will still be slowly getting set up and media/press will get their early access around this time. Friday and Saturday are far more busy. A lot of the time vendors would call me over or ask me to visit a booth just as I was walking by, even for something I wasn’t interested in. That’s why they are there and they are generally inviting. If you have time to chat with designers, even more of a bonus.
To use equipment you generally just wait for something to be available, there are no lines just as you see people using something you wait for them to finish if something isn’t free. I brought my own headphones last year but I think every booth had some kind of monitors and there was no feeling like anything was dirty. The best place to sit down and recharge is outside - in front there is a large park and you can sit there on benches or in the back where there will be tents with lawn chairs, hammocks, etc. The back is usually more busy because you have food trucks there as well. I didn’t have any issue bringing my own food & drink in a backpack - otherwise on site there are tons of healthy food options both vegetarian and not.
Just one more bit of advice if you want to attend, the time to look for hotels is as early as possible - last year I did a reservation in Köpenick and had no problem walking 30-40 min to and from the venue each day (very peaceful, and nice sights while walking along the water). Even though I reserved the year prior, I didn’t pay until check-in but obviously this varies with where you are staying. My rate last year was 340 EUR for 3 nights.
Hey all! Also considering attending this May 2025 to celebrate my 40th - and maybe buy some new gear let’s see.
My main partying days are behind me but besides the opportunity to try gear , socialise and attend workshops are people ‘getting on it’ there? Kinda dreamy day drinking vibe I would imagine ha. Especially if weather is good.
What about the workshops - in 2024 events summary it listed them as sold out. how does booking these work?
I’d consider bringing my DN2 if any spaces were available with a PA for folks to spontaneously jam together?
Exhibitors aren’t allowed to sell products at Superbooth (but sometimes depending on the product and exhibitor you can work out some kind of transaction). You are not allowed to bring your own equipment generally speaking. Things like headphones or small recorders they likely aren’t going to make a big deal (though you never know if this is going to change suddenly one year either), but there isn’t going to be a place on the Superbooth grounds where you can set up and play music as an attendee. People generally set things up outside Superbooth - if you talk with people on the spot you will get tons of invites, scoop etc. Berlin always has something going on.
Workshops tend to be announced and put on sale closer to the event itself, and these are usually on a first come, first serve basis. So you will have to keep an eye out.
A Gathering of Elektronauts @ SB25 ?! Let’s build an open stage
(Elektron has not yet been registered as an exhibitor, though…)
(@elektron You should bring the ToneVerk along inside a sealed glass box, just for teasing and taking selfies for more wild speculations about upcoming Elektron gear )
I will not be able to attend this year, alas. Furthermore, I will be visiting family in Toronto, so it will even be difficult to keep up with posts and videos (are there livestreams?). But best wishes to all who make it!
I will fly in on Wednesday afternoon from Copenhagen. I will attend the first two days of Superbooth. My SO will join me on Friday evening and then we will be tourists in Berlin for the weekend.
If someone is taking the same route, and wouldn’t mind hanging out then reach out.
