I just received a new Syntakt and the display looked kind of cloudy or dirty. I was assuming it was the thin film protector that comes on it. I just peeled it off to find it is the actual screen surface (unless there is a second layer of plastic film I am not detecting). Image of the screen below. Defective unit or am I missing something obvious?
could be film residue.
*it’s inside the bezel.
*I think.
it could also be residue I guess, if it was stored somewhere hot, but everywhere else is shiny and if it’s residue I’d think it would be there as well.
I remember a thread where a guy had a digitone keys which accidently made it past quality control and still had plastic inside, I suspect that’s this but I can’t guarantee it so you’ll have to look closer to see if that’s feasible.
I should add that I tried to carefully clean with a microfiber cloth with zero impact to it. So whatever it is, it is not on the top surface.
This was the keys with plastic inside, not sure now, looks a little different but also it’s positioned differently so I suspect it could be covering the OLED on yours.
Either way, I’d contact support and ask them if they want you to try and open it up or if you should send it back to the retailer.
You can always do the latter if you don’t want to deal with it, but I don’t think it’s a reflection of any damage, just maybe minor negligence.
Thanks. I have only had it for 24hrs and I think I am inclined to return to vendor for a unit without a screen issue. At this point I am certain it is not residue on the screen. It looks like it is on the underside of the glass. My older DT and DN are crystal clear, but this looks like it is an old display.
I did return the Syntakt and decided to have them send me back a Digitone II instead. No negative on Syntakt, but the need to send it back had me rethink things and decided to go that route as I love my OG Digitone. May revisit Syntakt eventually. Kind of a big pivot, but I think the right call in this moment.
