I had zero problems importing DN1 projects into DN2 with Transfer app. Just a simple drag and drop from one browser column to another. The browser in Transfer recognise .dnprj files. And the projects I imported into DN2 gave me no problems as they sound exactly the same as in DN1.
The problem came with large preset collections that are contained in syx files, like Elektron soundpacks. If you want to import those presets into DN (original or II version) you can use Transfer app but not in the browser view, but using the Sysex Transfer page, which is a little trickier than using the browser as you have to put Digitone in Sysex Dump mode and set the bank in which you want the presets to be imported.
Ok thanks, so far I have only bought soundpacks from the Elektron site and these have all the dnsnd files, and in any case there wonât be enough space in the dn2 to import them all. As for the âpresetsâ file, the dn2 has yet to arrive but I imagine it contains a file with the same name, perhaps the dn1 one needs to be renamed. Have you imported this file on the dn2?
I see⌠you are now talking about the âPresetsâ project, right? The factory patterns showing the capabilities of the synth.
The DN2 came with its own PRESETS project, but I also imported the old PRESETS project from DN1 into DN2. They are both named PRESETS but the machine allowed me to have two projects with the same name in different slots. Just to differenciate them, I renamed the old one âPRESETS DN1â and locked it with save protection.
EDIT: Soundpacks from Elektron that you download right now come with .dnsnd files, but when I bought them years ago, they only came with .syx files. I had to download them again from my account to have the separate .dnsnd files.
Yes, I recently downloaded and reordered all the soundpacks from scratch. Did you drag and drop this âPresets dn1â file into transfer or did you use the sysex dump system? Does this also need to go into a specific bank?
The projects (.dnprj files) are recognised by Transfer app browser, just a simple drag and drop from left column to right column and you can copy any project in any available slot.
Youâll see. Itâs really easy.
I never had a DN1, but heard that DN1 presets are compatible with DN2. So I bought a few presets packs.
I set the DN2 to SYSEX dump receive, and then tried first the transfer app, and then a 3rd party sysex app to send the sysex to DN2. In both cases it is stuck on âWaiting on dataâ, although Transfer and the 3rd party app says the file is sent.
Is it not possible to get DN1 sound packs into DN2? If so, did I waste my money, or is there a converter available?
If you use Elektron Transfer, you only need to set DN2 to audio/midi over USB and thatâs all. No need to sysex dump receive. (If you use USB, that is :D)
Sending .syx banks with Sysex librarian (on mac) to DN1 and using Transfer to export to .dnsnd on disk,
and then using Transfer to send .dnsnd to DN2 worked like a breeze and is actually rather quick.
I just used my empty bank H for that and after each conversion I emptied the bank again. Leaving my DN1 set to receive the whole time.
I converted all my 3rd party banks that didnât have .dnsnd in under 10 minutes.
you load the default project , and in project manager tag it writeable , when you save it will create a copy of the default preset project you will be able to load in DN2
Thanks⌠so at this stage unless we have a DN1 avail to convert the Sysex file all the DN1 Library need this update in order to be used on DN2 correct?
