Ableton Move : User Thread

yeah, op-z is def the closest thing that came to my mind. I am hoping the trig conditions come in time, they already have said they have a lot of features in the pipeline.

How easy is it to change the clip length on the fly? It’s so easy on the OP-Z to go from 16 steps to steps and so on. You can use it as a performance trick.

Ty so much

This is great. I love that it starts playing when you hit a pad to record. That makes perfectly timed resampled loops possible.

Is stretching supported?

Advantage OP-Z for sure. On Move, you have to hit Loop Selection, hold Shift, and turn the jogwheel. It’s good for polymeters but not great for live manipulation, unless I’m missing something.

Not yet, but you can repitch, or there’s a stretch tool that’s purposely lofi/granular.

These two things are fantastic little details.

I think when you get your hands on Move you quickly realise there’s a lot to come for it feature-wise. You can see the possibilities when you play on it.
It’ll be interesting to see how fast it progresses.

I just noticed something cool too;
If you upload your Move set to Cloud, you can open it in Note, make adjustments and watch Move update the Set.
Great if you have small fiddly bits where it’s faster on your iPhone/iPad.

I think since it is wifi connected that they plan to continue with updates, but of course we shouldn’t expect anything. Buy it for what it is now. Mine arrives tomorrow!!

Yeah this thing is awesome. It’s so fast - the immediacy of loading sets is chefs kiss.

I’m curious to know how the step sequencer work in live control and what the knobs do

Little detail that I love - you can play a chord and then hit a step (even after letting the chord go) and it will register the chord. Yes yes yes. So many devices get this wrong.

I think it bears repeating – don’t assume the updates you want to see will be forthcoming in any speedy manner (if at all). Buy musical gear for what it does now, not some vague idea of what you think it might do!

How do you edit individual notes of a chord in a step? Let’s say you’ve recorded a triad on one step and you want to nudge one of the notes, is it possible?

Presumably from the way you described it, you could work the other way around, Note → Move ?

You can just add or remove notes from a step, can’t nudge individual notes

Another little detail - 16 pitches in drums respects key/scale, YES YES YES
