DT + DN == Four Extra Inputs : )

I recently got a two-channel synth (Novation Peak). Between this Peak and two other single-channel synths, I’m out of audio inputs on my iD44 interface with nowhere to send my modular.

Thinking I’d need to run another interface via ADAT for extra ins, I’m now running four outs from my modular rig into the four inputs of the Digi devices. Panned hard-left and right, these inputs come up in Logic as four extra channels in Overbridge mode.

So far it seems to be working well and I didn’t have to buy another interface. Pretty cool.

Two thoughts:

  1. This approach sacrifices what would be my FX sends on the Digi boxes
  2. I can’t comment on audio input quality of the Digis, maybe I’ll run a side by side comparing the Peak into the Digitone & iD44

I think that a lot of people do this, audio input quality of the digi devices has proved to be quite good with proper gain staging. Glad this worked out for you! Nice utilitarian functionality of the format, to be able to do this. Also nice to save a couple bucks on your setup and avoid the complication of expanding via ADAT.
