Hey folks,
I just got myself a used Midi Fighter Twister which im gonna use via the Oxi one in “thru host” mode to ecperiment with parameter allocation with aim to sequence the rytm via oxi and do some parameter manipulation vis the Twister.
Anyone done similar ?
Ive read the rytm midi chart but still not clear on how to access the individual voices via midi and all the voices simultaneously?
Anyone who knows this could you help me out ?
Is there midi channel no.s per voice and then a master channel no. For all voices?
I get most of the other stuff this is just a stumbling block for me…plus my brand new Rytm had to go back with a screen fail so kind of flying blind here….
the basics are always the same, if you press (on mk2) FUNC+FX (or enter the MIDI Setup from the Global Setup) you can see which midi channels are assigned to what track, so by default to access BD track 1 you’d need to send something to midi channel #1.
the CC/NRPN maps will show which CC# )or for NRPN you’d need to set LSB/MSB) your encoders need to be, so for example, to control filter cutoff on that track you’d need to set the encoder to either CC#74 or NRPN 1/20.
same goes for every other parameter for every track.
if you use the AUTO CHANNEL, you can have the encoders send the midi info to the currently selected track, which you select by TRK+PAD.
you have also dedicated channel for the PERF and FX, you can use their dedicated channels and the CC/NRPN to control fx/performance macros independently.
to send notes, you can either use C0-B0 to trigger each track (I think from any channel) or send C1-B4 to individual midi channels to trigger the track chromatically.
if you run into trouble, I’m not sure how the OXI one forwards the midi, but if there’s a monitor built in and the THRU really sends everything you can monitor what’s coming from the MFT just to make sure you use the proper channel/CC/NRPN values, sometimes things gets scrambled so it’s good to make sure that the value you’re setting the MFT is really the one being sent to the OXI > AR
Awesome…thanks!!! Im starting to get it now slowly lol
it’s super easy once you get the hang of it, simplify to having a single parameter at a specific track work and from there on it will be super easy
Yeah so many possibilities especislly with Euclidean on/off and all parameters of euclidean available aswell as machine selection per track!
Shame retrig isnt but then oxi does all that more in depth .
Still waiting for the Rytm to land back with me ugh
How did you go with this? I recently picked up a twister and am planning to use it to control some rytm levels, filters etc via overbridge - just wondering if it’s possible to get bidirectional communication between them so the twister’s leds are always in sync with what’s happening on the machine? Maybe I need to map the overbridge parameters in Ableton rather than sending ccs directly to the machine?
Yeah, you’re going to have to use something like Ableton as an intermediary.
MIDI Fighter series devices can receive instructions for LED illumination either as raw MIDI CC messages (which is great if you’re into building light shows, etc)…or they receive the LED instructions through some arcane Ableton SDK code nonsense that I don’t understand at all…
But the MIDI Fighter people have definitely set-up the device to communicate with Ableton and have LED feedback integrated - so its really a matter of mapping Overbridge controls to native knobs in Ableton, then using MIDI Fighter to control those. Keep us informed of your progress!
Mapping the overbridge parameters directly works exactly as I wanted it to! bidirectional feedback between the twister and the rytm. Got 3 pages so far with track levels, filters and scenes, plus some drive and compression settings on extra bottom four encoders. Great little device this one.
RAD!
Good to know need to get onto this!
Hm, very cool.
Was thinking how to integrate twister, but never thought of this option
Thanks
