Hello!
Anyone here ever experienced corrupt data when attempting to send sysex on MK1 versions of the SFX60 or SPS-1?
The data I have captured from each attempt I perform varies by hundreds of bytes. And when I attempt to receive that data back into the instrument it counts multiple errors. I have firmware 1.32B loaded on the SFX60 and X.09 on the SPS-1.
I have a second SPS-1 MK1 (X.09) that is not experiencing this issue. I have also tested a second SFX60 MK2 (1.32B) without issues.
A few things I have tried …
- Swapping for new MIDI cables.
- Swapping MIDI interfaces.
- Tested two computers, one running Windows and the other MacOS.
- Tested with C6 from Elektron and SysEx Librarian.
Anyone experience this?
I have not yet tried downgrading the OS on either of these machines. Very strange this issue exists in two different instruments. You would think it has to be an external factor at that point. Yet two other machines are working just fine.
Thanks!
Hey.
Have you tried with slower transfer rates?
Not sure I could explain but I remember having had trouble with that…
Yo! Thanks for the suggestion, I haven’t tried that. I did discover a soft reset fixes the issue temporarily. I haven’t fully tested this method though.
Another interesting symptom: When both the working MK2 SFX60 and the buggy MK1 are plugged into my MIDISport 2x2 on the inputs/outputs A and B, the MK2 will then also produce corrupt SysEx data.
It’s almost as though the MK1 is spamming the MIDI “broadcast domain” with garbage data. Perhaps later I will setup a debug monitor to explore that further.
In the meantime this is kind of fixed which is good enough for me!

I found @stiiiiiiiveia correct and slower transfer rates, even using a tm-1, resolved it. Even non tm1 interfaces I had to slow it way down. This is sending Sysex from a device TO the elektron., which is what I assume you’re doing
(Cause no one does this unless they are loading autechre Sysex
)
I’m working the other direction. Attempting to backup my own kits/patterns. Those Autechre dumps were juicy though.
Here’s what I got done today Index of /etc/sysex
Follow up on this … Turns out the main issue here was MIDI clock. Disable the clock from sending and everything works fine.

Oh interesting. Does that mean that you can send Sysex at a faster rate with MIDI clock off?
