That’s interesting, I wonder why that is.

ruby!
I was getting only 502 errors this weekend.
Here’s the MnM Gang Discord https://discord.gg/MUSaqSFRGS
It’s amazing!

Love it!
It’s my first choice when put something together, not just such stupid bullshit like this answer to everything.
nothing is deleted, it’s just hidden to you - all the edits to a post are stored after ‘deletion’, ironically including the fact that it has been deleted, so it takes up even more ‘space’ to delete it
We have removed a few users who have ruined threads by insisting on ‘deletion’ - a much better system is only post what one constitutes as having value in the first place
There’s no obligation to remove anything posted, so it’s best practice to pause before posting and check the ‘value’ proposition then
Essentially, the moderators frown upon general post/reply deletion when it’s part of a conversation or topic with others contributing … separately, it’s also a classic ‘flounce’ gesture(or vandalism) when somebody is ‘done’ with the forum - those specific requests are never granted, the site guidelines make it clear that contributions, unlike stored personal details, shall be retained
So again, the best approach is to only contribute in a manner that there is nothing typed to re-evaluate retrospectively, i tend to strikethrough anything i wish to withdraw
Some of the other music forums I visit have deleted users with deleted replies, and it is like a long scar running through conversations. Maybe it was just dilatory, maybe it was toxic. But I don’t know. I would rather that toxic material be deleted. I would rather that dilatory material stay where it is; I can skip over it more easily than if it is gone and I have to wonder about what it was.
Ruby is fine, you can do lots of silly stuff ( like above ) in a bunch of languages. the fact the site seems to go down at 12am and then comeback up at 12am makes me think that its a Heroku issue and that who ever is administrating the site should set up some sort of heartbeat monitoring, and just redeploy the container for the site should it fail a health check.
Interesting … at this moment, I’ve just had the site alternately work and and not work. It happened several times.
This is different than what’s been happening recently, where the site would be down for hour(s) at night (pacific time).
Sounds like there are plans to retool the whole system and presumably fix all this mess sooner or later. So this post is just an FYI, not a complaint.
Odd side effect of the downtime:
I noticed this a few weeks ago. I’m on wifi at home now writing this but moments ago the page never loaded when on LTE. It seems to be the only site affected on my iPhone running the latest IOS. Curious if anyone else is having this odd issue! I’ve googled and tried remedies but nothing has worked so far.
Like some of the people in the above thread, I’ve been unable to access elektronauts.com via mobile data for over a year now. (Have tried plenty of troubleshooting steps and tried regularly for months and determined there’s nothing happening on my end to cause it)
Since the latest downtime, elektronauts is now working fine on mobile data I have no idea why this would be the case, but it’s nice to have the option now!
It’s hosted on a Virtual Linux machine at a small web hotel. No fancy service like Heroku. And sorry for the downtime. Bare with us for a few more weeks. Keep tight!
Bare with us
Frisky Swedes inviting us to their saunas now eh !
Sorry, not being the grammar police, just for giggles as i (as a 1st and only english speaker) occasionally double check on this one … i can’t bear the thought you might accidentally end up bare with a bear in a sauna if you get those muddled again
is it containerized in Docker or something like VMWare?
Painfully slow again today, lots of errors.
I just wanted to say the obvious… its not the mods…
I appreciate them for making the best of go at it… and Im hopeful for some better performance for their sake.
thank you @avantronica and @LyingDalai… its been years of service to the community…
and I just had the most interactions with them over the years in case I didnt mention other mods.
Trouble is brewing again. (?)
Just came over here to post a thread about issues on the site, and saw there was already this thread, from months ago. Surprised Elektron haven’t sorted this. I get so many 429 (server overloaded) errors on a daily basis. Like right now, just trying to edit a post, or visit my notifications.
Hosting is cheaper than it’s ever been - be great if Elektron could sort this. Or it may be their existing server just needs config tweaks.
They’re on it. Last November there was this statement upthread:
Hi! Very sorry about the downtime. We will be moving to a much better infrastructure that will mitigate the risk of downtime considerably. This will also allow us to update to a new version of Discourse to give you guys more nifty features and better security. But for this particular error we’ve taken intermediate measures for a crash not to happen in the foreseeable future. David Admin
New forum seems to ‘go back’ better than before on mobile … it was a bit random.
And we now have channels. ??!
and looks very different on desktop
